Before I get started, let me ask your forgiveness if the blog title seems a bit misleading. As you scroll through the before pictures I know you must be thinking,

What? A family room?

Traditionally this room, in any other home, would be considered the great room, wouldn’t it?

But the family room sits next to the another large, two story room. Remember the MILANO DRIVE GREAT ROOM reveal?

Now do you understand why its the family room?

My overall goal is to make it grand, approachable, and most importantly comfortable. As with the other rooms on the first floor, it will boast the classic blue and white color palette with special emphasis on the Asian porcelain vases. I’ve ordered A TON!

via SPLENDID SASS

The furnishings include a u-shaped sectional upholstered in performance fabric topped with throw pillows in one of my favorite Schumacher patterns, Katsugi.

Because this is a family room I’ve had the feature fabric treated at the mill with Nanotex, a process that helps fabrics to repels stains, resists spills, and wicks away moisture. Oh and it gets even better. The rug is a navy blue patterned Stainmaster carpet (not pictured) that will be cut and surged to make a large area rug. When completed, both the rug and textiles will be virtually indestructible. What more could you ask for?

Only only existing piece in the room is a large armoire. I’ll likely decorate around it as shown below.

The artwork will require its own blog post so stay tuned for that. I’m working with a mile-high ceiling and these walls are expansive. Would you believe I’ve already purchased a total of nine pieces and still have one more to go. Wish me luck!
