MINI MAKEOVERS

No matter how small, we all love a good makeover don’t we? Whether we’ve revamped a master bedroom with a fresh coat of paint, refreshed the bathroom with new towels, recovered the seats on some old dining chairs, or finally got around to reupholstering the sofa we inherited from Grandma—the magic of a makeover is both inspiring and infectious.

A complete tear down is almost never the solution for most design dilemmas and let’s be honest sometimes it’s just not in the budget. Small changes make a big difference and mini makeovers are proof.

Shortly after I graduated from college, I learned how to apply this concept to my personal life.  I remember sitting in my grandmother’s bedroom feeling defeated. My plans to get a job abroad didn’t work out, the global economy was in the toilet and so was my career outlook—or so I thought. I longed for a big change. After all I was officially a college graduate and the pressure was on regarding my next move.  The TV was on in the background and I could hear a woman on The Oprah Show taking about how small changes, over time, could have a huge impact on our quality of life. Later that year I bought her book, Life Makeovers: 52 Practical and Inspiring Ways to Improve Your Life One Week at a Time.* It didn’t take an entire year to see a change and I’m certain the actionable steps helped me to regain hope, focus, and a wonderful new job!

I made several improvement that year and can still recall even now, 14 years later, some of her practical advice like “Stop Juggling and Start Living: Here Are Some of the Balls to Drop.” Last November, I decided which balls to drop and also dropped 55 lbs. in the process.  My husband, never too far behind, also dropped 40 lbs. by imitating my daily habits.  The small changes I made included examining my reasons for being a stress eater, eliminating those stressors, replacing bad eating habits with good ones, and recounting my past good habits and implementing those as well. My weekly mini makeover of my diet resulted in one of the biggest transformations of my life.

This week decide on what small change you will make get you closer to the life you want. This is a mini makeover so don’t attempt to bite off more than you can chew. What can you remove from your daily life to make room for positive change?

We’re all here rooting for you!
