It’s a great pleasure to shine the spotlight on a long time friend, UGA fellow alum, and entrepreneur Ray Bergeron. He’s an accomplished millwork veteran and the one responsible for the kitchen and bath cabinetry on my renovation jobs. In addition to building cabinetry in some of the finest homes in Atlanta, he’s also half of the luxury wood-carved handbags duo BowensBergeron available special order in stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.BowensBergeronHandbags

With no formal training in furniture design, cabinetry, or manufacturing, Bergeron used his natural skills as a painter, sketcher, and sculptor, along with his passion for art and design to fuel his own self teachings and to perfect his craft. That craft included furniture and cabinetry design, manufacturing techniques, properties of wood and synthetics, installation & building codes, as well as software applications such as CAD.
Bergeron’s custom cabinetry and furnishings have been featured in many local and national publications with a focus on high quality craftsmanship, design, natural materials and finishes.

About six years before starting my interior design business, he shared a warehouse with my former employer. Due to the proximity of the office spaces, I got a chance to get an up close look into his design and fabrication process as well as his business operations. He shares in an interview with me on Williams-Sonoma Designer Marketplace blog his passion for detail, sustainability in design – and some advice for interior designers working with artisans. Please take a moment to check it out here.

Have a great weekend!

Erika
