It’s as if Annette Joseph read my mind when she wrote her first book, Picture Perfect Parties. This much anticipated, beautifully photographed, and eloquently written primer on how to throw the perfect party was just the tool I needed to jump start my creativity. I was one of the first to read the book back in September, before it was released by Rizzoli, and was instantly inspired to throw two parties of my own. Page after page of recipes and decor for every occasion provide hope to those who have never thrown a “picture perfect party” but have always wanted to.

Devouring every page (while sipping an espresso prepared by the entertaining empress herself) I had a chance to give Annette my first impressions on her perfectly styled photos and the perspective in which she wrote the book.

Take for example, the photo below illustrates one of my highest compliments about Picture Perfect Parties. Many books simply tell you in words what you need, but she also shows you in a clear photograph what you need for each and every event. Many of the items used in each of her parties are everyday things we have at home. This is particularly important for those who want to have a gorgeous table, but not want to spend a mint trying to achieve a certain look.

Here’s another example of how to make the everyday item extraordinary. The centerpiece is a clay pot coated with chalkboard paint. It not only serves as a menu card for this deliciously prepared meal, it’s also the vessel for a lovely floral arrangement.

Deborah Whitlaw Llewllyn’s photography combined with Annette thoughtful style and culinary prowess makes for a book primed for the New York Times Bestseller’s List.

Using what I learned from Annette’s book, here are a few images from a “picture perfect” bridal shower we threw for a blushing bride to be, Juleps and Joy.
