Needing a change of pace and honestly feeling burned out, I said a silent prayer asking for a taste of God’s divine peace.
He obviously heard my prayers.
The morning I opened an email from my friend Angela offering her mountain home I was once again reminded that I must be one of His favorites! A few short weeks later, but not without being delayed by a snowstorm in NC, we hit the road with my in-laws trailing close behind.
Upon arrival, and after barely opening the front door, I followed the sun to the backyard and was taken by this view. I couldn’t hold back the tears. Way up in the mountains of Waynesville, NC I found a slice of quiet. No horns blaring, no sounds of airplanes overhead, nothing. Just the sounds of nature and good clean air.
The interior did not disappoint. Angela out did herself. She and her family completely renovated the cottage and turned it into the most welcoming vacation home. You can see some crazy good before and after photos here and others in her “Best of the Cottage” series.
Here’s where we gathered for each meal, there was even a high chair available for Cameron.
A full shot of the living area. The wall of windows gave the true meaning of bringing the outside in.
You best believe we enjoyed the entire place like it was our own.
Angela even had a varied selection of toys for babies and toddlers! Seriously, this woman thought of everything.
The above photos only glean the surface of the thoughtfulness put into the design of this home which also boasts Angela’s own original artwork.
Please take time to visit her site to see the rest of the home especially the downstairs. The master suite, kitchen, and living space are on the main and where Chris and I primarily hung out. The kids and in-laws lounged downstairs in a secondary entertainment area and two additional bedrooms and baths.

This getaway was literally the breath of fresh air our family needed. Thanks to the Blehm family for their generous spirit and opening their second home to us!
