Hello Friends! It’s time for another magical before and after!
A few months ago I gave you a peek behind-the-curtain of a Nantucket-inspired family room design for a home in Dunwoody. You can take a look back at the original post here. Below is the furniture plan I gave during the presentation phase which also includes a floor plan layout for the new furnishings . Though we made a few adjustments along the way, which is a natural part of the design process, the final reveal proved to be an answered prayer for this family of four.
The newly designed living room boasts a large l-shaped Bernhardt sectional in Sunbrella, a performance fabric upholstery. Unlike the Sunbrella outdoor varieties, this one has a softer hand that is great for indoor living yet it stands up to everyday messes and mishaps.
The durable (and reversible!) blue jute rug was a must for this Nantucket-inspired family room. Natural materials have a way of ushering in the mood of the coastline even when you’re miles away from the shore. I scored the rug at an amazing deal, too! They are on sale here with free and fast shipping!
We replaced the small wall gallery with two oversized, classic works by Barclay Butera. Most people shy away from oversized art in rooms with standard ceiling heights, but it’s actually the perfect way to make a fresh style statement as well as make the space feel more expansive.

Punches of red, courtesy of the throw pillows, evoke an air of patriotism yet can be exchanged for orange or green when a different mood hits.
**DESIGN TIP** Teak accessories, greenery, nautical motifs, and reclaimed wood furnishings are easy ways to bring coastal elements into any room. See how the vase, bowl, floor lamp, and coffee table work together to bring a fresh, interesting twist to Nantucket style?

Linen, color-blocked, custom drapery panels provide a tailored finished to a pair of windows. Hung between the windows in whitewashed wood frames are photos from the family’s travels along the coast.
Between the windows and the sectional is a new reclaimed wood desk which makes excellent use of the previously empty space. Hung in the background are a pair of thick, knit throws for snuggling during movie nights.
Lastly, the old console was replaced with this gray washed beauty and topped with a whimsical ore!
