With my husband’s attachment to traditional wood floors, I’m not sure if I will have an opportunity to live in a home with white floors. Perhaps I could convince him them if we had a vacation condo on the beach. It’s all about compromise, right?

I love the clean appearance and its versatility; they look great no matter your decor style. My only concern would be  regarding upkeep, but with products like laminate pergo I could get the look along with low maintenance. Until I have a chance at love with my own white floors, I’ll ponder these images and hope for a client with the same vision. Hmm….

When light and dark elements are combined they present a graphic contrast; this modern living room is no exception. The gleaming white floors layered with the textured shag area rug help to balance the glossy espresso doors and sleek leather sofa.

Hugh Randolph ArchitectsIt’s no secret that I’m attracted to spaces that juxtapose a rustic and refined aesthetic. Exposed brick, barn wood interior doors, and dark beams alone would make this entry way feel cave-like. The introduction of the whitewashed floors and pristine walls provide an fresh update to this Tudor style home. The same look for less can be achieved with a white laminate in oak.

You’d expect to find this white-washed knotted pine in a cottage style home, but it in this entry the emphasis is more on the home’s modern attributes.  Yet with its industrial stair railings and metal/stone sculpture, there’s no chance of a room feeling cold in the presence of wood.

A seamless floor effortlessly connects two living spaces together, no matter the color, but it is the white floor that gives the appearance of openess and soaring ceiling height.

Concrete flooring is white hot in this newly renovated MidCentury Modern home. Again, the contrast between light and dark modernized the space while the wood tones and views of the outdoors turn up the heat.

Are you bold enough to try this non traditional look?
