Dark bedroom gets stylish masculine makeover by Erika Ward Interiors

Happy Monday, Folks! As promised here are the Main Street masculine bedroom reveal photos!

Everyone, most importantly my client and her husband, are so pleased with the final result! As stated before, the overall feel for the newly designed room is a collected look, yet with a youthful touch.

The terrace level bedroom has only one window and is naturally a dark space. Due to the lack of natural sunlight, no matter how much lighting or white paint added, it would always be classified as a dark room. My theory is to capitalize on the physical condition of the room and make it moody, comfortable, and stylish. Therefore upon moving in, we had the room painted Naval (SW-6244) by Sherwin Williams–a deep, rich, navy blue.

As a reminder, here’s the approved concept design:

and here are the results…

I didn’t get a great shot of the overhead fixture, the Draper Pendant Lamp from Crate and Barrel. Ahh…a total win. The sixties-inspired fixture gave a nod to the vintage dresser and the warm brass continued a repeating element in the design.

At the bedside, a raised trunk offers surface area for decorative accents as well as closed storage for books and other personal items.

The vintage dresser was the only piece of furniture original to the room. To integrate it into the design plan, I removed the existing mirror and replaced it with a mirror with an antique-trunk finish and nail head trim. In addition to the mirror, worldly influences like the globe and woven accessories also help to give this room a well-traveled look.

It’s 50% traditional, 50%  transitional, and 100% masculine with it’s sexy silhouette! Accented with a marble-top side table and pharmacy lamp, it makes the perfect reading nook in this cozy man-cave.

Finally, the graphic, flat weave rug was the jumping off point for the room’s design. Made in India, it’s wool, reversible, and has a unique pattern that encompasses both tribal and casual themes. Fashionable, durable and affordable, is was the perfect update to the room’s decor.
