Yesterday morning the kids and I kicked off the holiday season with one of Atlanta’s favorite traditions. We enjoyed a ride on the Macy’s Pink Pig at Lenox Mall!
THE MACY’S PINK PIG, A GEM IN ATLANTA HISTORY
The Pink Pig has been around for over 50 years. It first came about in 1952 as an idea to attract suburban customers to the Rich’s Department store formerly located in Downtown Atlanta. There, it was a beloved Christmas attraction until 1991 when the department store closed. The ride was then donated to The Festival of Trees in 1992 then retired and donated to the Atlanta History Center in 1995.
In 2003 it was revived and moved to the Macy’s Department store at Lenox Mall. Thank goodness!
