PROJECT:

There’s something especially intriguing about a four-year-old who knows what she wants. When it comes to fashion Ivana seems to be ready for the catwalk at a moments notice. At our first meeting, she wore a stylish tee that was fringed at the hem, demin shorts, and the most adorable suede cowgirl boots. I even asked her if they made a pair in my size.

Her current bedroom mimics her fashion aesthetic. It has great accessories that rides the lines on traditional, edgy, and modern; or others may simply call it eclectic.

Her mother solicited my help regarding space planning, furniture selection, and also helping her to sort out their existing inventory of amazing home goods. The existing items include billowy taffeta drapery panels, a chandelier, white storage unit, a pair of vintage nightstands, an assortment of colorful photo frames, a white glossy mirror, and of course a collection of doll from around the world.

INSPIRATION:
As an avid lover of window treatments, I was immediately drawn in by the existing drapery. Geez, they were nicer than the ones I currently have in my own bedroom. But it was an unrelated shopping trip to TJMaxx where I happened upon the zigzag throw and area rug pictured above in the design plan. The rug encompasses every single color I envisioned in the room and was a complete steal at $50. If you follow me on instagram, you saw the moment where I contemplated keeping it for myself.  It’s a problem, I know…

WHAT I LOVE MOST:

  • I thoroughly enjoy creating a room that grows with the child. For example, the desk featured in the plan may serve as a perch for her to play dress up, but later its the same spot for scholarly study session.
  • Ivana’s room will be a continuation of the aesthetic that exists throughout the family’s home, yet it will remain kid-friendly and encompass all the things she loves.
  • This project will be yet another demonstration of how shopping your home and purchasing a few new items can completely transform any space.
  • I demostrated to the client how to mix styles to achieve Ivana’s signature look for her room and en suite bathroom.

Stay tuned for progress photos!
