Though formal dining rooms are known for being stuffy, client’s makeover is both glamorous and welcoming.
Our client wanted to entertain in a dining room that was approachable yet elegant. To achieve this goal, we placed heavy emphasis on color, texture, and comfort. Whether serving on their best china, enjoying a Sunday dinner, or hosting a brunch, this delectable dining room is now suitable for any occasion.
Before
Above is how we were first introduced to the room via property listing photo. Overall, the room had many attractive elements—ample lighting, high ceilings, accent lighting, hearty molding above the doorways and a great wall niche.
The existing Tuscan-style chandelier and builder basic paint color were the first to go.
After
Dining Room Inspiration
The room design started with the client’s existing artwork purchased on a trip to Africa. It features a unique color palette of fresh green, eggplant, cream, and hints of mustard. It may not sound like the start of a tasty recipe but was a flavorful jumping off point for the rest of the design.
Because this room is open to the rest of the house, we chose to continue similar shades of green found in the other spaces. For drama we selected a classic geometric pattern, Schumacher’s Imperial Trellis, for the custom drapery panels. Take advantage of every opportunity to make a bold fabric statement!
Using Walls and Ceiling to Set the Atmosphere
To unify the walls and trim, we painted both using Sensuous Gray by Sherwin Williams. The warm gray paint with purple undertones helps to create an intimate feel without the room feeling too dark. The wall niche and ceiling feature a wallcovering with metallic grid pattern, adding a touch of sparkle to the space. A large-scale wood beaded chandelier with gold leaf replaced the original tuscan-style one above the table.
The Save
The furniture was the client’s own from the previous residence. We were all elated to find that it was the perfect fit for the room. In my opinion, timeless pieces like these are always great investments.

This room is GORGEOUS. Love the gold accents. That chandelier and table are perfect
Thank you so much Bridgette! Goes to show that metallic finishes can sparkle just as bright as crystals
This is absolutely beautiful! I know they are loving hosting guest in their refreshed dining room.
Thank you Niki! I have to say I enjoy admiring my own work when I visit. We are now working on phase 3, the terrace level!
This space is lovely.
Thank you so much Chona!!!
Beautiful Erika! I love how you tied the new light fixture to the brassy/gold tones in table legs and mirror! Did you also paint the ceiling? It all came together beautifully!
P.S. I’m looking for you to help me renovate my next home. 😉
Hi Gena!
We installed the same wallcovering on the ceiling and the wall nook. I’ll have to include another picture in this post so everyone can see the details!
We are overdue for another project. Let me know whenever you’re ready!!
This is beautiful!
Superb work, as always.
My favorite color is any shade of green…so of course I fell in love with this dining room makeover!
