This may be my most gratifying project this year.

This Spring Room Service Atlanta started strong with a commitment to redesign not one, but two cottages on the campus of the United Methodist Children’s Home. A total of 25 designers tackled the two properties with lots of creativity, resources, and good ole fashion blood, sweat, and a few tears (of joy). I gladly chose Suite 7, the largest of the seven apartments in Smith Cottage. Here will be home for a hopeful young woman transitioning out of foster care. Though clean, the rooms were very dark and lacked personality.

Let me remind you of what it looked like BEFORE:

And here is the glorious AFTER (photography by Christina Wedge):

It all started with my desire to create a regal bedroom using colors that would make this young resident feel like a pampered princess. I loved layering shades of purple starting with the saturated accent wall, Indigo Night by Glidden, followed by lush velvet drapery panels, light purple ceramic lamps (Posh Tots), and an eggplant drum shade chandelier courtesy of lampsplus.com.ErikaWard_RoomServiceAtlanta_Reveal_2b

The Century headboard was designed and fabricated by Arthur L. Bailey and Company. It’s oatmeal linen upholstery provides a sophisticated backdrop to a bed layered in luxury.

The embroidered linen sheet set and super soft diamond matelasse coverlet provided by PineCone Hill will envelope her in comfort after a long day.

The bedding ensemble is topped with a sprightly play on pattern which ushers in youthful energy.

A pair of cerused oak side tables accented with bronze ring pulls (PoshTots) flank the bed and keeps essentials within arm’s reach.

The lime green lacquered desk and crisp white desk chair (PoshTots) provide a stylish setting for studying or surfing the web. A kaleidoscope of color courtesy of the “Trapezoid Love Art” by Oopsy Daisy Art for Kids pulls the entire color scheme together in one graphic punch. A hook “Love Pillow” adds a vibrant finishing touch to this vignette.

After having lunch with a friend in her gorgeous Atlanta kitchen I was instantly smitten with her fresh green cabinetry and had to duplicate the look for this deserving young resident. Get the look with Glidden’s Western Cactus and hardware by Martha Stewart for Home Depot. This kitchen also received a brand new countertop, sink, plumbing fixtures, and drum shade pendant light (lampsplus.com)

The cherry on top of this kitchen just maybe the trio of artwork, Moss; lemons, pears, and oranges, donated by Art & Associates. Great art makes everything shine brighter, doesn’t it?

Opposite the cabinetry, the resident and a guest can enjoy a delicious meal seated at the Parsons counter height table and Collins Stools upholstered (in durable Sunbrella fabric) by Room and Board. An ombre purple chevron runner designed using FLOR carpet tiles leads down the hall to the front of the apartment.

Last, but not least, the bathroom received a mini facelift with new countertop, faucet, painted cabinets, hardware, lighting, towels, and accessories.

I pray that in this newly designed apartment, a young resident can receive a fresh start, dream, and realize a brighter future. It’s been my greatest pleasure to serve in this capacity and to witness the outpouring and generosity of many others. Thank you for allowing me to share such a rewarding experience!
