If there’s a “great room” listed on your home’s floor plan, then it certainly must live up to its name.
Lofty ideas are required to address soaring ceilings and larger than life picture windows as featured in this great room designed by Westbrook Interiors for the 2016 Southeastern Designers’ Showhouse and Gardens.
She lays the foundation with a classic palette of black and white punctuated by overscaled floral photography courtesy of Atlanta’s Whitney Ott Photography.
Soft furnishings boast pristine white upholstery while accent tables in rustic wood finishes anchor the room.
One of the standout furniture pieces was this custom daybed upholstered in ivory linen and Alpaca wool–unbelievably soft and luxurious!
Other natural elements, such as the sisal carpet, are woven into the design scheme and give the room an approachable, family-friendly atmosphere.
Silk cabana stripes pillows are the only pattern in the room. Its repetition makes a enormous room feel deceptively smaller and cohesive.
Dark finishes as seen in the 5-light antique iron candelabra from R. Hughes, side table, walls sconces and shiny black ceramic lamps are the perfect touches to catapult this great room into modern sophistication.
“Every room in a home should be warm and inviting regardless of ceiling height,” says Westbrook.
Without a doubt, her mission was accomplished.
