Today’s before and after project really drives home the importance of consulting with a designer at the beginning of your home buying process. Case in point, my clients purchased a gorgeous modern craftsman style home, however it was staged with traditional-styled furnishings. Though they recognized the home as a true gem, they had no clue on how to integrate their personal style.
The entire home, much like this dining room, boasts generous moldings and large windows. The existing light fixtures were a beautiful bonus, but not their style. However I knew I could make them work in the new design.
Keeping in mind that my clients are a young, creative, and energetic family that loves color, texture, and urban influences here’s what I proposed:
The furnishings provide a edgy mix of both modern and traditional styles, but the paint, wallpaper, and drapery fabric selections I must say truly command the greatest amount of attention in this design.
For the ceiling, I went with my tried and true Spice Hue by Sherwin Williams. I have this color in my own kitchen and still love it years later. The wallpaper is a metallic grasscloth by JF Fabrics. It’s hard to for me to capture through an iphone photo, but it has metallic threads that make the walls glisten! Here’s a progress shot:
And for the reveal…Viola!
I can’t tell you enough how much I love the cut-velvet drapery. So rich, so bold, and so textural you either will love them or hate them. And when I say hate them, I mean hate that you don’t have them in your own home! ::Swoon::
Hard knocks are ok as long as you are talking about the hardware on these chairs. Killer, no? I posted this same photo on instagram where someone commented, “I tried to like this 800 times!”
Girl, tell me about it.
I always know when I made the right selection when I have to repent and ask God’s forgiveness for coveting my clients’ furniture.
Kidding, but not kidding.
So again, here’s what it looked like before and after:
Like night and day…
