THE FAMILY ROOM on Barkley Hill

Simple. Casual. Elegant.
Sometimes it’s hard to recognize the beauty of simplicity especially as it relates to decorating. Some argue that details and embellishments are truly what makes a space feel “decorated” while others live by the mantra, “less is more.”

However, the right opinion is that of the homeowner and how they want to feel when they arrive home.

When your work is hectic, I believe your home should be a haven of peace. This family room exudes that with its layers of crisp whites, grays, and the warmth of yellow.

Gray pillow combinations

Keeping it simple doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have details. It just means that there’s less tension in the overall design. Although this trio of throw pillows each has its own unique texture, they also have the same gray undertone which unifies them in color.

Details like these rugged nail tacks help to balance the feminine silhouette of the sofa making it more approachable.

Larger details like polished nickel nailhead trim further accentuates the curves on a pair of comfortable barrel chairs.

Coffee table styling by Erika Ward Interiors

A touch glam never feels over the top when paired with natural materials like this blue stone coffee table. A mirrored tray and a pair of crystal cut candleholders still feel apropos in this casual setting.

I’ve never met a crystal obelisk that I didn’t like, therefore I gave them a prominent position on the mantel.

More reflective goodies can be found in the adjacent breakfast room. Again the vibe is casual yet the presence of a glass teardrop chandelier ups the ante.

And how could I not give you a closer look at the workmanship on the custom drapery panels. A delicate, charcoal gray flat trim provides an unexpected colorblock effect. So polished and pretty.
