Do you remember the coral and floral living room design I presented back in late August? Well, we wrapped that project last week along with the adjacent sunroom and neighboring dining room (stay tuned for the dining room reveal later in the week). What made the most difference in the space was my bold use of color—not for the faint at heart. Even the clients’ neighbor, whose home is decorated in neutral tones, became green with envy when she saw the results!
Without further delay here is a before picture of the sunroom.
The only thing to love about this room was the abundance of windows, oh and the bell jar lantern. All else had to go! Once the furniture was removed, we painted the walls Sociable SW 6359 by Sherwin Williams. The ceiling (not shown) was painted in Topsail SW 6217 by Sherwin Williams.

The previous sunroom had only enough space for one. I’m not sure if that was “by design” but I knew we could create space for another person to enjoy the ambiance. We brought in two chairs from the family room and recovered them with a wide cabana stripe from Fabricut.
The pillow fabric, Imperial Dragon in Coral by Thibaut, provided the both the theme and color inspiration for the design. Its coral-y orange and blue palette features a Chinese scene much like ones found on screens. We repeated the China blue in accessories such as the Happiness Jar, coordinating vases, and a serving tray for their beverage of choice.
Before this was the view from the sunroom. The room had great furnishings and I loved the rug. As is, it wasn’t impressive enough to be the first room you see upon entering the house.
AFTER
Custom silk window treatments with kiwi green banding replaced the store bought pair. The built-in bookcases were highlighted by the addition of wallpaper, Bamboo Lattice in Coral by Thibaut. The bamboo motif helped to bring the Chinese-inspired theme into the living room without being too literal. From this angle, you can also see that we added a antique mirror console to help divide the entryway from the living room. We also brought in more gold accessories to add polish.

One thing my clients love is that I try to use as much of their original furniture as possible. My secret to pulling it all together is knowing which fabrics and additional furnishings to bring in to the room.
Coral and floral are also showstoppers here in the living room. I chose these fabrics from Schumacher to complement the rug and exisiting artwork. More coral accents were introduced in the piping on the custom pillows as well as the two coral lumbar pillows made from metallic linen. The really help to highlight the pattern on the slipper chairs.
Last, but not least, we selected the most beautiful gold leaf chest adorned with exquisite hardware!
Here’s a closer look.
