High-end inspiration doesn’t have to be out of reach. Here’s how to bring top design ideas into your own space.

Every year, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House sets the stage for some of the most stunning and innovative interior designs, and the 2025 Palm Beach showcase was no exception. As an interior designer, I couldn’t resist taking a day trip from Atlanta to see this year’s transformation firsthand. From bold color palettes to jaw-dropping architectural details, the show house was filled with inspiration at every turn.

But what made this year’s event even more special was the representation. With Black designers making up only 2% of the field, it was incredible to see a show house that not only included us but showcased the full spectrum of talent that makes design so powerful. Walking through these beautifully curated spaces, I was reminded that great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about storytelling, culture, and inclusivity.

And here’s the best part: while these homes exude high-end luxury, many of the design concepts on display can be adapted to any space, no matter the size or budget. Whether you’re looking to refresh a single room or rethink your entire home, these five key takeaways from the Kips Bay Show House will help you bring a designer’s touch into your everyday spaces.

Lesson 1: Statement Tiles Transform a Space

One of the most eye-catching features throughout the Kips Bay Show House was the use of statement tiles. Whether on floors, backsplashes, or feature walls, tiles were used not just for their function but as a key design element that added texture, color, and pattern. This bathroom designed by Shakoor Interiors boasts geometric patterns to intricate, hand-painted designs, statement tiles brought a unique personality to every space they touched.

Another bathroom, this one designed by Kelly Collier-Clark created a chic focal point, where even the sink introduced texture and sophisticated silhouettes. The beauty of statement tile and stone is that they’re versatile—they can make a big impact in small doses or transform an entire room when used throughout. Even if you’re not ready to commit to a full tiled wall, consider a striking floor pattern or an unexpected accent in a powder room. Statement tiles and stone have the power to elevate any space with creativity and flair.

Lesson 2: Bold Color and Pattern Create Instant Personality

I couldn’t get over the stunning hand-painted finishes layered over textured wallpaper throughout the show house. The color combinations ranged from soft, dreamy pastels like the Renewal Retreat designed by Indigo Pruitt, to bold, unapologetic primaries, each carefully curated to make a statement without overwhelming the space. When you really take the time to study these rooms, you start to see the magic—how just the right amount of restraint and a thoughtful approach to scale create a sense of harmony.

If the idea of a fully saturated room or an intricate pattern feels daunting, start small. A hallway, ceiling, or even a single accent wall can serve as the perfect canvas for experimenting with color and texture. And if committing to wallpaper or paint still feels like too much, take a more subtle approach by introducing pattern through textiles—think throw pillows, rugs, or drapery—to bring depth and visual interest without the long-term commitment.

Lesson 3: Layering Textures Adds Luxury and Depth

Stepping into a bedroom designed by David Mitchell Brown felt like entering a world of quiet luxury, where every detail was designed to be both visually striking and deeply tactile. The standout feature? A sumptuous silk wallcovering adorned with a bold blue floral motif that added an incredible sense of depth and sophistication. The sheen of the silk caught the light beautifully, shifting in tone throughout the day and creating a dynamic backdrop for the space. This room was a masterclass in layering textures—plush velvet upholstery, crisp linen bedding, and gleaming metallic accents all worked together to enhance the richness of the design. Even if a full silk wallcovering isn’t in the cards, you can achieve a similar effect by mixing soft and hard materials in your space—think a bouclé chair against a sleek stone table or woven drapery paired with a lacquered credenza. The key is in the contrast, and when done right, it brings an undeniable sense of elegance to any home.

Lesson 4: Art and Accessories Should Be Big and Bold

Caroline Gidere’s seashell mirror —an unforgettable statement piece that perfectly captured the essence of Palm Beach. Not only was it a stunning nod to the coastal locale, but it was also the largest and most dramatic seashell mirror I’ve ever seen. The intricate arrangement of shells, meticulously crafted to form a large, bold frame, created a dynamic focal point that commanded attention without overwhelming the space. This mirror wasn’t just a functional piece; it was art, reflecting both the natural beauty of the surroundings and the designer’s creativity. The lesson here? Don’t be afraid to go big with your art and accessories—whether it’s a larger-than-life mirror, a statement sculpture, or an oversized piece of artwork. Bold pieces add a sense of personality and make a powerful impact in any room.

Lesson 5: A Bold Kitchen Makes a Lasting Impression

This most captivating kitchen designed by Rajni Alex Design struck the perfect balance of warmth, classicism, and innovation. The cabinetry, painted in a deep, rich eggplant, felt both timeless and daring, setting the stage for a space that exuded depth and sophistication. Above the range, a custom vent hood—crafted from hand-painted plaster to mimic the look of aged brass—added an artisanal, one-of-a-kind touch that blurred the lines between old-world craftsmanship and modern ingenuity. The real showstopper, however, was the marble. With striking veining infused with warm reddish undertones, it seamlessly tied the entire palette together, elevating the design with an exquisite harmony of color and texture. This kitchen was a masterclass in bold, thoughtful design—proof that classic elegance and cutting-edge creativity can coexist beautifully. For those looking to make a statement in their own kitchen, consider rich, unexpected hues, layered finishes, and materials that feel storied and soulful.

Not to be missed, Meg Lonergan Interiors’ outdoor kitchen was a true showstopper, featuring a boldly crafted vent hood that made a striking statement above the professional-grade grill. This space effortlessly blended luxury with functionality, proving that outdoor kitchens can be just as refined as their indoor counterparts. What a treat to see a home embrace the concept of a posh, high-performance outdoor cooking space—where impeccable design meets top-tier culinary capability.

As the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach continues to captivate with its breathtaking designs, there’s still time to experience it for yourself. The tours run from February 22nd to March 16th, Monday through Sunday, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Whether you’re an interior design enthusiast or simply looking for fresh inspiration, this is an event you don’t want to miss. Be sure to take in the innovative spaces and stunning details that make this year’s showcase a must-see. If you can’t make it in person, I hope these lessons inspire you to bring a touch of luxury and creativity into your own home. Happy designing!

Erika
