It’s officially September, Friends. However, I’m not in a rush to grab a scarf nor a sweater.  Summer and I still have some unfinished business. I need something to make seasonal transition a wee bit easier. We love Summer and we love hard. And if you’re like us, this summer wind down routine makes the transition into fall a little easier.

It goes by so fast, doesn’t it?

June arrives, and we jump-in. We jump into the pool, jump into vacation mode, and jump for joy that we get three months of endless days and shorter nights to enjoy time. It’s exciting, it’s long-awaited, and…it’s fleeting.

So here we are, summer has waning, and now we have to shift gears. It’s not so easy to let go of summer! Our mindset has been relaxed, everyone around us has been leisurely, and time felt luxuriously on our side, for once. But it ends, and we need to shift.

Gently let go with a summer wind-down routine, a good way to ease into the new season, relish the passing season, and even get ready for the following year.

Put Your Memories on Display

Each year in September, set aside a little time to cherish your summer memories. Here are a couple of ways to do this:

Create a gallery wall

Designate a wall in your house for hanging photos, like a gallery, about your summers.  Use funky frames for a fun, modern look, or stick to the same color and style for a more traditional, classic styling.

GALLERY WALL VIA ELLE DECOR

Create a custom coffee table book

Consider consider documenting your days by creating your hard cover book that you family can enjoy through all seasons. Companies like Mixbook and Shutterfly makes it easy for someone without any graphic design experience to pull together a beautiful, professional-looking book. Do you memories deserve any less?

Thinking Ahead

Think about the great things you did this past summer that you’d like to do again next year. Also, think about the things you did not get to do. Then, collect everything into a master list of summer activities that you can pick from next year.

Find a place that you can post this list where you see it every day. By posting your list prominently, you’ll achieve two important things:

Makes It Real

Once you write something down, it gets out of your brain and you’re a step further in achieving it. Having the list in a prominent place keeps it in the forefront of your busy life. Knowing what you plans are, you’ll be ready to make reservations or request days off work without a second though.

Gives You Inspiration

You will benefit from having something to look forward to and add motivation to the months ahead. We’ve all had a dull day at work or dreary weather that gets us down; your “Summer List For Next Year” works well as incentive to get through the doldrums.

Goodbye for Now, Not Forever

It’s always hard to say good-bye, but with a wind-down routine, you will have a gentle transition that creates nostalgia for the past and excitement for the future.

i really like the idea of a summer wall gallery with funky frames. the winter months can be so cold and it’ll be nice to have the touch of summer to warm things up inside and out.
