Last Thursday I attended a panel entitled “FROM MAGAZINE TO MONITOR – THE RISE OF THE BLOG” given as part of the SCADStyle series going on through May 6th. The title alone earned an add to my event calendar.  The panelist were Jaithan Kochar, Rita Konig, Nick Olsen, and Eddie Ross, moderated by Richard Mishaan. There are some snaps from the discussion.

In case you didn’t know, there is an ongoing debate in the fashion and interior design world on the relevance of blogs. Some industry experts believe bloggers are not qualified to give their opinions or guide consumer choices. They feel that bloggers create noise and more confusion when it comes to consumer buying decisions. As a blogger I love the fact that we are a community of citizen journalist who are exercising our freedom of speech. We often give an unbiased/unpaid opinion of a particular product or service and inspire one other to create beauty around us.

 
I’m drawn to blogs that have a voice behind them. Don’t get me wrong, I love to see beautiful inspiration images, but if you read as many as I do seeing the same images over and over gets old fast. 

• Magazines may be shrinking in number, but the nimble shall survive
• The best blogs are the most original—and the most authentic
• Partnerships between the two benefit both
• Whether you’re 18 or 81, if you’ve thought about blogging as a way to get your name out there, do it. Just be yourself and say something interesting.
