Well I’m back in Emory Village (yay!!) with not one but TWO great projects. I’ll share more about the second one later this week. The first is a study / sunroom for a young family of four. This room will serve as a workspace for the parents and then as a homework area for their two young daughters. On the weekend, this room will also be a second “viewing room” on game days. Though this family loves football this study lounge will not be a sports-themed space.
The decorating plan for the new study lounge has a relaxed, coastal feel that invokes serenity and displays an appreciation of nature. Two of the four walls have a bank of windows that don shutters. I love how Bermudian it all feels. I suppose my mind is still vacationing.
Cool colors like the blue sectional upholstered in performance fabrics and the multi-colored inspiration art above the sofa are the room’s basis for color. However we’ve discussed substituting the artwork for a round mirror which would do even more to open up this modest space.
Here I’m sharing a few computer renderings I used in the presentation. You can see how the natural materials, the grasscloth wallcovering, bamboo nesting tables, Palm-blade ceiling fan and Tuscan brown desks add back warmth into the space.
The opposite side of the room contains both a corner desk and another single desk where two can work side by side.
Pan the room once more and catch a glimpse of another wall where I’m proposing black and white photographs. I can imagine pictures of their family vacations hung here along with the girls’ artwork.
I predict you will see reveal pictures very soon! This family is excited for the next steps and have already given their stamp of approval! Stay tuned!
A study lounge! What a neat room and necessary space for a family. Love the concept.
