[tps_header]Turn the pages of almost any shelter magazine and you’ll find that cement tiles, also known as encaustic tiles, are all the rage. If you’ve traveled a little or at the very least had a history course, then you’ll find this (like other trends) isn’t anything new.
Dating back to the 1850’s, Catalonia, Spain became known for its affection for beautiful cement tiles. In the 1920’s, cement tiles traveled across the pond and became popular in the United States gracing homes in California and Florida.
I’m excited to see cement tiles making a comeback. Truth be told, I was getting bored with market selections and custom painted tiles don’t always fit into the design budget.
Recently, home improvement retailers like Home Depot and other online retailers now offer an attractive array of cement tiles and display photos of beautiful installations like the one below.
