To paint or not to paint wood paneling It’s really a matter of personal preference, but there are obvious clues when you should paint wood paneling.
If your wood paneling is not real wood at all, dated, or badly damaged, then let it go.
We’re not debating on solid, exquisitely beautiful wood paneling like in the photo above. However, if it’s reeking with testosterone and you’re wanting something softer then keep reading.
We turned this rich, wood clad room into a feminine workspace by adding textiles, a rug, and wallcoverings to keep it pretty.
It’s easy to understand why we can’t get over the transformation made in this library.
Originally a masculine home office, we lightened up things without the use of paint.
Yes, you read that right. Not one paint brush made an appearance in this room.
Furniture, custom window treatments, the rug, and styling performed the heavy lifting here. Below you see how we used a combination of white and soft caramel hues to “feminize” the library.
(l-r) office chair leather upholster, grasscloth wallcovering on bookcases, drapery fabric (Acanthus Stripe by Schumacher), and the antelope rug from Ballard Designs.
Located off the front entry, we needed this room to be more than just functional. An executive desk keeps personal files under lock and key. It also boasts room to hide large necessary computer components or even a printer.
We added texture to the built in bookcases by applying grasscloth wallcovering to the back panel. First we removed the shelves, then applied the paper to thin foamcore, lastly we propped the panels up on the back of the bookcase. The shelves hold them securely into place. There are no worries about damage if homeowner decides to remove the paper later.
When working from home, did you know that taking frequent breaks increase your mental stamina?
A recent study shows that you can reach “perfect productivity” by working for 52 minutes, and then taking a break for 17.
We’re all about self-preservation here so we created an opportunity for the client come from behind the desk. A cozy armchair, unused in another part of the house, becomes a place to decompress.
