SANDY BEACHES, PRISTINE WATERS, and BLUE SKIES are the main components of a beach-inspired bedroom for our latest client.

The Ultimate Staycation

When the client can’t get away—right away—they will soon enjoy a master bedroom retreat that simulates the feeling of arriving to a secret destination. Dubbed Soft Sophistication, expect to find a masterful blend of weathered wood, breezy linen, serene abstract paintings, and warm antique bronze finishes in both the beach-inspired bedroom and adjacent sitting room.

Inspired by Mother Nature

The sky was our color muse for this decorating project which seemed especially appropriate in the sitting room. With two of the four walls being mostly windows, we took the liberty of painting the ceiling the most perfect shade of blue, Sherwin Williams’ Stardew. Even if the weather outside is less than perfect for a long walk on the beach, the indoors captures the spirit of a summer on the sandy shores. The wall color, Benjamin Moore’s Clay Beige, is reminiscent of the soft sands and creates a serene envelope around the entire master suite including the ensuite bathroom and wet bar.

Enlarged Territory

The new master suite is much larger than the client’s previous bedroom and the scale of the furniture was much too small to stand up to the size of this room. We made all new furniture selections to include a king upholstered bed flanked by two large chests, a six-foot tall brass etagere, and lined custom drapery panels in a lightweight linen. And at night the ceiling fan overhead will circulate an ocean breeze while asleep. Two of our favorite architectural details are the large brick double-sided fireplace and the arched entryways that gives us a generous look into the sitting room.

The adjacent sitting room boasts generous windows that offer the most glorious sunlight throughout the day. With ample seating from the sofa upholstered in a soft performance fabric, to the chaise lounge, to the elegant desk chair there is a place to relax while reclining or sitting upright.
