Renovation season is quickly approaching and we’ve consulted with several clients to answer a burning question, “How can I make my home look more current?”

The most common renovation projects, like a new kitchen or bath improvements, are often the first that come to mind. Not to discount their value or necessity, but the costs will surprise you especially if you aren’t financially prepared.

If you aren’t in need of an overhaul, then consider adding interior mouldings to a few rooms. You’ll find that they give your home architectural interest and score major kudos for you at resale.

For example, a room with interior mouldings often has a more polished look. Skeptical? Consider adding interior mouldings to just one or two rooms in your home and witness the remarkable difference.

Here’s a great example from our Silhouette Project:

BEFORE

We proposed to remove the existing door trim and suggested installing pediments around the doorways for a more substantial look.

PROGRESS

I took this picture while standing in the dining room. The ladder is positioned in the home’s entry. The living room is in the background.

From this same angle, you can already see what a difference new interior mouldings make.

Interior Moulding Updates

And here is the finished look…speechless? It doesn’t even look like the same house, does it?

While at KBIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) last month I was impressed with the vignettes designed by interior moulding and door company, Metrie. What I love most about their product is that they categorize the mouldings according to style—Very Square, French Curves, Fashion Forward, True Craft, and Pretty Simple.

The Sommelier’s Wine Cellar

This wine cellar vignette spotlights Metrie’s Very Square Collection, a crisp, modern silhouette that works beautifully with the clean lines of the cabinetry.

The Weekender’s Retreat Foyer
Shows the versatility of the French Curves Collection. The convex design provides a modern-day interpretation of a Parisian boutique hotel.

The ceiling featured crown moulding paired with paneling. This look is a beautiful departure from the traditional ceiling medallion.

The return on investment for making such improvements hard to scale in dollars and cents. However after seeing the above examples, anyone would agree that interior mouldings elevates—exponentially— any space, big or small.

If you’re looking to take your home’s architectural details to the next level, then we’d love to design and install the interior moulding profiles that are best suited to your style.  Please visit our services page for more information. We hope to hear from you soon!

Erika

Silhouette Project…..Awesome. Did you have the pillars site built to fit around the walls? Nice the way they wrap around the walls and don’t make opening smaller. Hardwood floors….so nice too.
Too bad I live way out in Washington State, you do beautiful work

      Hello Ruth,
Yes we did build them on site for that very reason. Thank you for your kind words. Keep in mind that we do travel!

Beautiful work ! Do you sell plans or drawings so that I can construct my own? I am especially interested in pediments and door treatments.

    Regards,
