Thank you Jet Magazine for publishing my advice (January 23rd) on transforming your living room into an ideal retreat. It’s such a honor to have my work included in a magazine I grew up reading. There was always a Jet in our magazine rack!
When Senior Editor, Kyra Kyles called to chat about low-cost ways to add serenity to your living spaces, I gave her these words of advice:
GLOW: Use lamps instead of overhead lights to create a gentle, rather than glaring, effect. You’re establishing an atmosphere of relaxation and coziness.
THROW: Colorful cashmere fabrics – available for as little as $25— add style and flair, plus something soft to cuddle up to in winter months.
EDIT: Take a look around, and remove furniture, such as an extra end table, that doesn’t add value. Cluttered rooms = cluttered thoughts.

LOLOLOL!! Thanks, D! I’ve got a lot of work to do before I pose as Beauty of the Week. Don’t count me out though. I can be ready by summer!!
That’s great, Erika! I use lamps in my living room and bedroom instead of overhead lighting and I agree that it makes it more relaxing.
Thanks Tam! It’s a ritual every night in our home. Overhead lights off, lamps on!
