It’s my pleasure to share with you a sophisticated family room I recently completed. Its impressive double height ceiling would intimidate most however I knew just what was needed to bring it down to size.

Here’s a quick reminder of what it looked like before:

Empty. Sure enough we had a blast turning cartwheels and riding scooters through this space but it was time to add polish to what felt like an indoor skating rink.

A handsome, generously-proportioned, custom u-shaped sectional was the perfect furniture solution for the new family room.

BUILT TO LAST

Upholstered in Sunbrella performance fabric, this generous sectional stands up to the toughest stains and everyday family use. The rolled arms and base of the sectional are accented with handsome nailhead trim which helps to strike a good masculine-feminine balance.

The custom throw pillows feature Schumacher’s Katsugi print and were treated with Nanotex, Schumacher’s  answer to fabric performance and protection.

The artwork by Kelly O’Neal fits so well in this room that you would think the works were commissioned.

The two complementary pieces make a grand statement no matter which direction you enter the room.

The opposite side of the room houses their newest collection of blue and white vases, bowls, urns, and platters. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of scouting the marketplace for a pattern they’d love.

A huge television is hidden behind the cabinet doors. When the doors open, they recede into the sides of the cabinetry.

The sturdy wooden coffee table is on wheels and can be moved around within the furniture group. We topped the coffee table with more blue and white pottery, storage boxes.

The shelf underneath has two woven baskets which provides even more room for storage.

From this angle you can see more of the existing armoire. We flanked it with large iron candle sconces and topped it with more pottery and my favorite boxwood ball.

Through the doorway can also get a peek into the breakfast and gathering room. Read more about it in the link below.

The family room is open to the neighboring great room which makes them together an entertainer’s dream.
