Owning your own business can be a fulfilling experience and at times be a bit scary. Couple that with using social media as a new method of reaching potential clients and doing business in this age can be extremely intimidating. Kravet Fabrics, in business since 1918, is one of the few organizations who recognizes that social media is changing the way consumers make buying decisions. As a courtesy to their vendors, they are conducting a series of presentations around the country that aim to demystify social media.

I was honored to participate in the panel (#15 on the tour) held in Kravet’s Atlanta showroom on yesterday. Jennifer Powell, Kravet’s Social Media Coordinator opened the discussion with a presentation focusing on four social media outlets, Facebook, Twitter, LinkIn, and Blogging. Be sure to read this post “Social Media 101 by Simplified Bee” for the basics. At the end of her presentation, me and panelists Claire Watkins of Claire Watkins Interior Design and Barry Leach of Lancaster Interior Design answered audience questions.

Thanks so much Kravet for bringing your presentation to Atlanta and for having me as a panelist!

If you were unable to attend the discussion yesterday feel free to leave a question in the comments section today.

Do you use social media to promote your business?

Another event missed… Question: how do you add the twitter and Facebook plugins to your blog? Or should I get my blog designer to do it;-)

    You looked amazing!

  • I'm so sad that I missed it!! I had so many questions, but I'll just ask one:

Between Facebook, your blog & twitter, which do you feel has led actually clients to reach out to you the most?

@Lakeitha, I believe that's more of a web design question. I would google "adding social bookmarking to blogger." There are a lot of helpful tutorials that will walk you through the process without hiring a web designer.

@Niki, I would say that my blog has helped to bring business more than any other outlet. I believe clients can "prequalify" you and get to know you by reading your content and viewing the work you post. It's like inviting them to your "virtual office."

  • Y'all were great and I was honored and delighted to meet you Erika. Wasn't Jennifer great? I'm always happy to meet another High Pointer. P.S. thanks giving me time to suck in my tummy before you took my picture.

  • you look great!! looks like a great event

A pleasure and an honor all around!

  • Congratulations to you! I would have loved to be there. I'm on board with blogging and facebook. Not real in to twittering yet and am wondering what you think about Linked in? It is becoming so much to keep up with , I hardly have time to design. Actually worse than that I am staying up half the night on the computer. I'm exhausted!

  • Congrats on being a panelist Erika!! Looks like a great event!
