IS IT TIME TO SAY NO TO NEUTRALS?

With neutral hues taking front seat in the design trends these past few years, I’m left wondering who sucked the life out of our interior spaces? Who had the gall to do away with glorious color? Not afraid of bucking the trends or creating a little fuss, I propose a full revolt against pale rooms and raise my fist in favor for color.

The Upward Bound House by Elizabeth Bomberger asian bedroom

My plea is probably as dramatic as the rooms featured in my recent article for Houzz, but seriously I’m looking for some spaces that encourage a little fun. We practice enough restraint in public, so why not let our hair down, get wild, and get colorful. It is quite liberating. If you aren’t afraid to be a bit rebellious, take a look at the rest of these amazing spaces. Have a wonderful Friday!

I love color, but I think people think it's hard to do right. It is so much more interesting than neutral spaces.

  • I love color too, but my hubby is more of a neutral person. So, I like to add splashes of color with drapes, accent furniture and little knickknacks.

I use neutrals throughout my home and use punches of color that I can easily take away. I know that is the sissy's way!! I wish I could embrace color more permanently but Capella was correct: it's hard to do right. Maybe I will start with my new powder bath reno!

I am so for color right now. I have been living in a neutral space for too long and colorful spaces can't some soon enough!

I never really got on the neutral bandwagon. I have a couple of clients who have a low tolerance for color, but for the most part, the people I find who want to work with me want color. They aren't slap-happy crazy for color, but they don't want a neutral space either. I really think the real estate professionals are the ones who have pushed the neutral trend because it sells homes, but IMO it's never been the best design trend.

  • Oh, how I which I wouldn't have a rented place. I really would love to have dark blue walls in my living room.

Right now my favorite color is a sunny yellow. I painted picture frames and a letter K above my dogs place. I only have a small space, so I have to be careful with the yellow. Since I have to stay away from the walls I will try to buy some accessoires in a great raspberry color!

Yes!!! While I am drawn to the look of a neutral room and love an all white space, but pops of color alongside the neutral bases is what makes me happy in my own home.

    I enjoyed this post! Janell
