This weekend is your last opportunity to tour the 2015 Serenbe Designer Showhouse so you better get moving!

After viewing the showhouse with Erika last month, I fell in love with the vignettes in each designer’s room. Not only was I able to spot the up and coming trends, but I was also inspired to redecorate certain areas of my home.

Now that fall has arrived, I’m certain that you too are in the mood for some redecorating. Instead of redecorating an entire room try creating vignettes, or scenes, that reflect the style of the season. Here are 5 home styling tips to get you started:

1. USE LAMPS TO BUILD YOUR VIGNETTE

Whether you use one lamp, or two for symmetry, illuminate dark corners of your room and shine the spotlight on special collections.

2. SELECT OBJECTS THAT SUPPORT THE SEASON

Fall is one of the best times to add more greenery and other natural elements from outdoors. Have a family heirloom that doesn’t fit into your space? Give it a new purpose. In the home office, designer Jason Mitchell of SmithBoyd Interiors used his grandmother’s sewing machine as a bar. Brilliant!

3. USE COLOR TO COORDINATE A ROOM

Use colors from artwork to give your room a pulled together look. Select a color from a painting for the wall color. Incorporate other colors throughout with the use of fabrics. In this terrace level media room, upholstered bar stools extends the painting’s color story into the room’s furnishings.

4 .MIX OBJECTS OF DIFFERENT HEIGHTS

Place smaller objects on pedestals or books to elevate them. This adds dimension to your vignette and allows your eye to focus on each item both separately and collectively.

5. USE DIFFERENT TEXTURES

Mix hard, soft, rough and natural elements. Combining these unexpected pieces is the designer’s secret to creating a vignette with textural interest.
