What exactly is that?

Is it food? Is it juice? Is it something the dog brought in? It’s that sticky residue that mysteriously appears on your clean floors, minutes it seems, after you spent the afternoon mopping. It’s like shoveling snow during a snowstorm.

I, if no one else, understand your frustration.

Here’s your solution…

Get ready to be introduced (or reintroduced) to Pledge®, a trusted household brand. As a teen I recall the lemony fragrance I smelled each Saturday morning when I dusted every piece of wood furniture using Pledge® Furniture Spray. I grew to enjoy cleaning and bringing the luster back to every piece I touched.

That was almost 20 years ago and much has changed about Pledge®, traditionally known for its products to dust and clean wood furniture. Their product has diversified to include so many more cleaning solutions.

And to no surprise, I’ve changed as well.

Pledge Promise Erika Ward

My cleaning relationship with Pledge® recently expanded from furniture cleaning to floor care when I was introduced to their line of wood floor care products, Pledge® FloorCare. As an interior designer, furniture preservation and fabrics are my passion. As a design mom, I’m also passionate about the cleanliness of my wood floors.

With a husband, five small children, and a big dog, it’s no wonder why the sticky stuff is such a mystery and a concern. I’ve recently partnered with Pledge® and I’m excited to spread the word about their convenient line of wood floor care products. Some are designed for daily maintenance, while the others are for deep cleaning solutions. It’s hardworking stuff!

Here are my top five tips for keeping wood floors clean… without our efforts going to the dogs, no offense Fido!

1. PUT EVERYONE ON PAW PATROL
After walking the dog, the responsible walker wipes his four paws clean before entering the home – especially during mud-inducing weather conditions. In case someone forgets, use FloorCare Wood Squirt & Mop for super quick clean ups.

2. PAMPER YOUR PET
Keeping your pup’s nails trimmed is always a good idea. You can only imagine how ours can scratch up the floor when he hears the welcoming sound of the doorbell. A little manicure goes a long way for a piece of mind and the longevity of a wood floor.

3. PLACE RUGS IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS
Just as much as pets can wreak havoc on our floors, so can our children’s toys. In gathering areas such as family rooms, sitting rooms, or keeping rooms, use comfortable area rugs on the floor where the children can play with their favorite toys without restriction.

4. PUT KIDS IN CHARGE OF CLEAN UP
As early as preschool, kids learn to clean up small messes, especially liquids. We remove water, juices, or any liquid immediately from wood surfaces to prevent unnecessary water damage. We have a mini mop in our home that is just their size and accessible to them. Our little ones are happy to help in the clean up efforts especially when we make it a game. Listening to music while you work helps time to pass. When you buy any two Pledge® products you can rock out to free music. See www.cleanestspringever.com for details.

For preventative care, we use Pledge® FloorCare Wood Concentrated Cleaner. It revitalizes wood floors by cleaning and protecting them.

5. POLISH AND PROTECT YOUR FLOORS
Be proactive. I always advise my clients to polish and protect their wood floors with FloorCare Wood Finish, and I do it too. Before our first usage, we thoroughly cleaned the floor with a solution of 1 cup ammonia and 1/4 cup Pledge® FloorCare Multi Surface Concentrated Cleaner in 1/2 gallon cool water, then rinsed floor with clean water. We next laid down the finish to give our floors a beautiful shine. This maintenance product can protect hardwood floors and help prevent dirt from getting trapped in floor grooves and indentations, which makes cleaning much easier.

So what was that sticky mess? Who knows, who cares? Thanks to the Pledge® Wood FloorCare line, it’s handled in a jiffy! We are able to spend less time playing stain detective, and more time playing with each other and entertaining family and friends in our beautiful and clean home.

Because seeing is believing, four lucky readers will receive the line to try at home! Just leave a comment below telling us which room in your home are you pledging to keep clean.

Although I have partnered with Pledge®, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Actually, every floor in my home needs a bit of TLC. Since I’m a southern-born, southern-bred, and southern-led I will have to pledge to my living room and dining area. Here, in the south, friends and family may drop by at anytime. Mama says, “the areas where you entertain company, should always be presentable”.

Just in time for the swim season here in Southern California where it is already a stifling 95 to 100 degrees! I would use this in my family room to keep the human “paw prints” off the floor as traffic to and from the patio is sure to increase.

  9. Nice tips and advice. Now I can clean my floor in a professional way.

  10. Brenda says:

I pledge to keep my kitchen floor clean . I do not understand where the sticky stuff comes from. But, I will certainly take your great advice with PLEDGE!!

  11. Ann says:

I pledge to keep my family room floors clean. This room is where my family of 4 hangs out along with our two dogs. It is also has a door to our side porch and is the primary entrance/exit that we use. It’s also a very small room. All of this together means the wood floors in our family room take a beating every day!
