I can barely contain my excitement as I share my big dining room reveal with The Home Depot and their Home Decorators Collection. I had so much fun designing this space for our family and documenting the process with a camera and crew. It truly felt like a television moment except that I was the host, designer, and recipient of the makeover. Doesn’t get much sweeter than that. Before I talk about the final look, here’s the backstory.

SAMSUNGBefore - Dining Room turned Playroom

For years, our dining room conveniently functioned as the children’s playroom. Since most of our family’s daily activities take place on the main floor of our home, it was important that I had a centrally located area to supervise them while they played.

Some may consider it absurd that I turned my dining room into a playroom, especially since it’s open to the front entry. However, I chose to use my dining room in a way that best served my family at that time. Before - Dining Room turned Playroom

Now that the kids are older and can play in their rooms, it was time to “reclaim” our dining area. This room was going to be unlike any other room in our house. I planned for a fun space that would really push the envelope in regard to color. Most of the walls in the common areas of our home are painted a neutral color, but I wanted this room to sing! We also needed a dining table that would accommodate seven and furniture that would provide additional storage.

With my busy lifestyle I was able to decorate our entire dining room, top to bottom, with online purchases found at The Home Depot and Home Decorators Collection—even our brand new hand scraped bamboo floors, seriously. This even included scheduling a contractor to measure the amount of flooring I needed for the job.

So without further adieu, I’m proud to reveal our delectable dining room!!Dining Room Makeover with Home Depot and Home Decorators Collection

Our new dining room is a complete upgrade from our former space and serves the entire family! For the past couple years, I’ve been obsessed with just about every shade of blue.

I completely enveloped the room with the featured color even down to the floor with a lush, room-sized area rug.

I got everything I wanted in a dining table with the Aldridge Extendable Dining Table in Walnut. With the leaf it seats 10, without it seats 8. Plenty of room for us all! It’s rustic design and distressed finish can stand up to the everyday use of a large family. Its coordinating dining bench is a great option for casual seating and super easy to clean!Dining Room Makeover with The Home Depot and Home Decorators Collection

The “adult” chairs have fabric upholstery. A pair of Marais armchairs flank the buffet and serve as host chairs when we need additional seating. The Marais sidechair (without arms) rounds out the seating selection. I love how both styles balance the dining table’s rustic design, introduce traditional elements such as nailhead trim, and have the look of French-inspired antiques.Dining Room Makeover with The Home Depot and Home Decorators Collection

The last piece of furniture I ordered was the Hampton sideboard. If you have the space, this is a great piece to have. Think beyond the ordinary purpose of a buffet and make it serve your true need. We have tons of cabinet space in our kitchen to hold all of our dishes however what I really needed was storage for books. This works perfectly!
